The Balaclava Look

Safi Bello

If you live in a climate that is very cold and the temperature is frigid right now you are probably trying to stay as warm as possible. Staying warm means wearing thermals, heat tech underneath your clothing, heavy and puffy sweaters and layering with chunky cardigans and a faux fur coat or jacket or a puffer coat or jacket with a scarf, gloves, a traditional hat that keeps your head warm or a balaclava to keep your head, ears and neck warm.

You might have heard of the word balaclava. Just in case you haven't a balaclava looks like a ski mask. A balaclava is is a cloth that is worn as headgear that is designed to expose only part of the face, usually the eyes and mouth. Balaclavas are ideal for preventing cold exposure and frostbite to the face and ears. Depending on the style and how it is worn, only the eyes, mouth and nose, or just the front of the face are unprotected.

With the temperature going from the 30s to the 40s to the 20s in NYC a balaclava is something that is definitely needed and is very handy to have in your purse on days that you forget to wear a hat and a scarf. The balaclava does the job of a hat and a scarf. Also if you plan on going skiing or to any mountain destination or anywhere that is very cold a balaclava is also great for that as well.

If you live in a cold climate and are looking for ways to keep your head and ears warm and you already have a traditional hat and are looking for other headwear to keep your head warm then you've come to the right place. If you are just interested in trying out the balaclava look then you've also come to the right place. Below are some balaclava looks worth checking at different price points.
