The Modern Day Tuxedo Look

A tuxedo is pretty much a suit that is made to be worn in the evening. The tuxedo was created to be worn at black tie events or on special occasions. Tuxedos are usually made in black or a really dark blue. But nowadays you can find tuxedos in several colors and at different price points.

When looking for a tuxedo there are three tuxedo lapel styles that you should keep in mind. The Shawl lapel, Peaked lapel and Notched lapel. A shawl collar tuxedo features the lapels style collar also known as roll and dinner collar. A shawl lapel is a rounded turned-down collar, without lapel notches and no peak, that extends down the front of a garment. It is a continuous strip of fabric running from lapel to collar to lapel, and only tapering off when it finally hits the button closure. A peaked lapel is the most formal, featuring on double-breasted jackets. With a peaked lapel the lapel edges point up and towards the shoulder. A peaked lapel is for a a formal occasion. A notched lapel is sewn to the collar at an angle, creating a step effect. A notched lapel is more for everyday wear and a business look.
