Planned Parenthood is a healthcare non-profit group with 59 affiliates and 700 clinics around the US, some of which provide abortion services. Well three months ago a rule was proposed which would require state and local governments distribute federal funds for services related to contraception, sexually transmitted infections, fertility, pregnancy care, and breast and cervical cancer screening to qualified health providers, regardless of whether they also perform abortions. Now that proposed rule has been passed by The Obama administration which issued a final rule on Wednesday barring states from denying federal family planning funds to organizations such as Planned Parenthood that also perform abortions. The measure takes effect two days before the January 20th inauguration of Donald J. Trump. The administration's action was expected. Abortion opponents immediately said they will seek to reverse the rule under President-elect Donald Trump.
