How To Guide For: A Look At The Energy Industry And Crowdsourcing

Safi Bello

Crowdsourcing is the practice of obtaining needed services, ideas, or content by soliciting contributions from a large group of people and especially from the online community rather than from traditional employees or suppliers. In crowdsourcing, you can outsource the task to not only a small group of people, but also tens of thousands of people who operate independently and who are willing to provide their services in exchange for experience, recognition or low rates of pay. Companies are now using social media and internet forums to invite them to participate on specific projects. Several Energy companies are turning to InnoCentive and other crowdsourcing companies to help with their efforts. Back in April -- The U.S. Department of Energy announced a major expansion of its distinctive online crowdsourcing community for building technologies which would help with the challenges critical to advancing energy efficient buildings.
