How To Guide For: A Look At Social Security Benefits -- Will This Be Around When The Millennial Gene
Social Security Benefits are paid out monthly to retired workers and their spouses who have, during their working years, paid into the Social Security system. Social Security benefits are also available to qualifying individuals who are completely and permanently disabled. Workers can begin receiving Social Security Benefits at the age 62. But the Social Security Benefits are much greater if the worker waits until their full retirement age of 66 or later. Social Security Benefits are broken up into four categories which are retirement, disability, dependents and survivors. Retirement Benefits are for workers who have worked a commensurate number of years and can now collect benefits anytime after they reach the age 62. Disability benefits are benefits for when you haven't reached retirement age but have met the work requirements and are considered disabled under the Social Security program's medical guidelines, you can receive benefits approximately equal to what your full retirement benefits would be. Dependents benefits this is if you are the spouse of a retired or disabled worker who qualifies for Social Security retirement or disability benefits, you and your minor or disabled children may be entitled to benefits based on the worker's earning record. This applies if you depend on your spouse for your support or you don't. Survivors benefits applies when you are the surviving spouse of a worker who qualified for Social Security retirement or disability benefits, you and your minor or disabled children may be entitled to benefits based on your deceased spouse's earnings record.
