On Monday hundreds of Delta flights were cancelled and delayed due to a system wide computer shutdown that started in Delta's Atlanta headquarters. Thousands of passengers were stranded around the globe. At first Delta blamed the computer shutdown on a power outage caused by a utility company but then stated it was the result of an internal outage followed by the failure of a backup system to take over when the main computer system failed. Delta had predicted that everything would be back to normal by Wednesday afternoon. As of today Delta flights have resumed.
