When you're on the hunt for a new career you may come across a job ad that seems like this is for you and it's something that you can't pass on. Then you apply and out of all the candidates that applied you get a chance to interview and still the firm seems like the most amazing company and you wished you could work at a place like this. Well I'm here to tell you to be careful what you wish for. Things are not always as they seem when you're on the outside looking in. I interviewed six job seekers and they explained to me that when they go in for an interview the interviewer seems to say all the right things and would be friendly and likable. But when the candidates start at the new firm they quickly realize that the company isn't all that they hoped for. The employee notices that there is a lot of tension, too much gossiping, spying, bullying taking place, there could even be employee sabotage, tons of clicks and no involvement or lack of communication from upper management. Basically the employee will feel like what have I done, everyone seems so mean, unhappy and miserable and the first thing that comes to mind is how can I get out of this toxic situation. The first step to take when in a toxic work environment is to take a deep breath. Then do a self-assessment meaning asking yourself how can I make it a positive work environment and what am I doing that isn't helpful in making this a positive work environment. Then trying to be pro-active and turning things around from a toxic to positive work environment. If this doesn't work it's time to get out. I know sometimes people feel like they have to stick it out but a toxic work environment is not good for you in any way. I truly believe when one door closes another one opens which can lead to bigger and better things. So don't settle for something that has a negative impact on your life.
